The car feature a 2.6, V6 with fuel injection and was good for a top speed of 124mph. Transmission was via a 4 speed manual box.
October 1971 saw some chagnes to the car including ventilated front discs, revised rations to gearbox and axles and the addition of chrome quarter bumpers front and rear, with the front incorporating the indicators. Septemeber 72 saw more changes with RS4 spoke alloys, 3 spoke steering wheel and black bumpers replacing the earlier chrome ones, full width for the rear.
In total 3532 RS2600 capri's were made although none were sold in the UK. A couple have made their way over here though.
September 1973 saw the start of production for the second RS capri to be made called the RS3100. Engine wise is was fitted with an overbored Essex 3000 V6 producing 146Bhp and again a top speed of 124mph. Teh RS3100 was fitted with many parts as the late RS2600's including brakes and suspension. They were also fitted with a badly needed Ducktail rear spoiler which greatly improved stability at high speeds.
In September 1970 the first production RS2600 rolled off the line only to find that the wide front tyres fouled the front wings. This resulted in the unique front wings fitted to RS2600 and RS3100 model capri's.
Sales of the RS3100 were poor, partly because it had additional options over the 3000GT and had a heafty price tag of £2500. Other factors that effected sales was a oil crisis and the fact the capri 2 was waiting in the wings.
